Kindergarten - Fifth Grade
Have you ever thought of a place where children would have so much fun learning about how awesome God is that they wouldn’t want to miss a single week…where the music is so contemporary and engaging that the children leave humming the tunes, and the words help them remember biblical truths all week long…where creative teaching techniques, video and drama are effectively used to teach our children how to live the Christian life at home, at school, and in their neighborhoods…where Small Group Leaders love and encourage children while modeling Jesus. This is the kind of Sunday school we are striving to be. In this program we are developing children that are growing as Christ followers through a five ‘G’ focus:
Grace - by receiving God’s gift of grace and extending it to others.
Growth - in the knowledge of God and understanding how God’s purpose includes a plan for each of them.
Group - by experiencing friendships in a small group.
Gifts - by exploring how God has created them and how they can serve others with gifts they have received.
Giving - by developing hearts that recognize that all they have belongs to God and desire to use their resources and time for His purpose.
Our lesson objectives are designed to help children discover the relevancy of the Bible.
The first objective focuses on KNOW WHAT—kids will know the bible story presented.
The second objective focuses on SO WHAT?—kids understand the Bible truth in the story.
Preschool Sunday School
What could be more important—and more exciting—than teaching little children about God? Nothing! That is why our preschool Sunday school program is using Movers and Shakers curriculum by Gospel Light. By the time a child has completed this curriculum, he or she should be able to:
- Tell that the stories in the Bible are true.
- Tell that the Bible is God’s news to us.
- Recognize by sight Bible words such as “Jesus” and “God.”
- Listen with understanding to Bible stories and verses.
- Tell that God gave the Bible to help us learn about His love and His plan to send His Son, Jesus.
- Name everyday actions that show obedience to Bible verses.
- State in his or her own words Bible truths about ways to love and obey God.
Peace, Come, Talk and Play Playgroup
We offer a playgroup on Friday mornings from 9:30 –11:00 am in the Little Angels Nursery room at Peace. Our playgroup is an informal session where parents, children and babies meet together in a relaxed environment. The children are provided with an opportunity to explore imaginative play in a safe place. No child is too young for playgroup. All children from 0 - 5 years love new experiences and benefit from developing sensory, motor, communication and social skills through meaningful interaction with their peers. Adults also benefit from playgroup--a time to talk, make friends and share experiences. Activities at play group are free. Interested, contact Rita at rita@peace-lutheran.org.
Discovery Club
Discovery Club is Peace's Midweek program for children 3 years old through 5th grade. It is held on Wednesday nights (Sept.-May) and runs from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.
The children start out the night in the church worship area for an object lesson and singing. We also celebrate birthdays and have monthly prize drawings at that time. Following the opening, the children go to their classrooms for a Bible lesson, activities, crafts and snacks. Our curriculum for pre-school through 3rd grade is by Group Publishing Co. and is called "Hands on Bible Curriculum". This curriculum uses whimsical gizmos and fun, creative activities to hold the children's attention and teach them important biblical truths. Our older children (4th and 5th graders) are using Concordia Publishing's "Jesus Company" which is a Bible story based curriculum which helps them to learn more about the Bible and to be better prepared for confirmation classes in 6th grade.
Unique to Discovery Club is our quarterly store night. The children earn "Discovery dollars" each week for attendance, memory verses, good behavior and for bringing new friends. Then, four times a year they get to "cash in" their dollars at the store which is full of kid friendly prizes. These nights are always very much looked forward to by all the children.
