In a culture that finds pride in freedom and individuality, we are often tempted to press the issue when it comes to our spirituality.   We want to believe that our faith life and journey with Jesus is just between us and him and that others should keep out.  But the message of Scripture is clear.  While we are accountable to God for our thoughts words, and actions,  God also expects us to hold each other accountable within the community of Christ's followers that He has joined to.  This is not done in a spirit of condemnation but a spirit of love and a desire to grow together in our obedience to our Lord and Savior.

Monday | Matthew 12:36-37 & Hebrews 4:12-13

Is accountability something that is a regular practice in your life? Does accountability encourage you or frighten you (or a bit of both)? What does it mean to be accountable to our words? How does that change our behavior?

Tuesday | Proverbs 27:6; Proverbs 13:10;  Proverbs 13:18;  Proverbs27:17

These proverbs paint a picture of what it looks like to heed advice, and also what it looks like to ignore the wisdom of others. How easy is it for you to listen to the advice, instruction, or wisdom of others? What makes it easy or difficult? What does it look like to obey God and His Word?

Wednesday | Galatians 6:1-5

What does it look like to restore a spirit of gentleness? What conflicts do people face when they confront someone with bad behavior, sin, or wrongdoing? How can we support one another by bearing their burdens? What does it look like for others to bear your burdens?

Thursday | Colossians 3:12-17

Freely given forgiveness is a cornerstone of the Christian faith. What does practicing that forgiveness look like in your life? Are you “forgiving one another, as the Lord has forgiven you”? If not, what next step do you need to take to practice this command of God?

Friday | Ephesians 4:11-16

God has equipped us to serve one another. What roles do you fill as a part of the Body of Christ? Paul tells us in this passage that part of this relationship with Christ and other believers includes speaking the truth in life, growing in the faith and knowledge of Jesus, and being united with other believers. What is one way you can put this into practice in your life this week?
